6.37 – Churchill Downs – Sprint No single speedster has emerged from the regular season to dominate this league with Euroears desperately poor in the Vosburgh when beaten out of New York by Giant Ryan. The last mentioned is lightly raced for a five-year-old and keeps on pulling more out of the fire and should possibly be shorter than 6/1 on your side of the water. The Factor will find this too quick so it may be worth having a play on AIKENITE, taken to come through late on to grab the money in a very open revisit to the Sprint.
7.21 – Churchill Downs – Turf Sprint – This is a race to have a wager on and with early pace all over the draw this could turn into a closer’s paradise and CARACORTADO back down in distance, but with good enough speed on the cruise to get a shot at the leaders down the stretch, is the play. Remember his credentials include a second to Courageous Cat in the Shoemaker and an unlucky second in the Del Mar; if he can translate that form to this shorter bounce I expect a result. California Flag and Chamberlain Bridge are the established performers coming back for more and the last named, a brilliant winner over the C&D in last year’s race, looked to be finally getting a hook on things this season with a fast finishing third in the Turf Monster. Most of your bookmakers have pushed out the ‘Bridge’ in their betting due to his stall 14 draw, but he has to be held together in any case for a late run so it is not a catastrophe.
10.07 – Churchill Downs – Mile – Everyone is telling me in Europe, including Paul, that Goldikova is not the horse she has been and having seen her on tape that is probably true and this year the Mile is a much better race. I loved the way your Strong Suit made up the ground last time at Newmarket, but he may need luck in running through for a horse that has not been on the travel here and old warrior GIO PONTI may finally have his day. His run in the Shadwell convinced connections to run here instead of the Classic and if getting a better ride than last year he won’t be out of the three. Turallure is useful but needs the run of the race and a bigger player could be your Byword who could have the race set up by tearaway Sidney’s Candy.
